Hi! I’m Mary (aka Mary Sue to close friends and people who know my family). AKA Grandma Mary to my beautiful grandchildren Maddie, Mikey, Jamie & Max. AKA ‘Kale Mary’ the ‘FoodNurse’ and dubbed ‘Mother Mary’ by Dr Bill Sears (honored!). I love wearing lots of hats – strong woman, friend, wife, daughter, sister, holistic nurse, cook, hiker, and most of all MOM!
Ten things you may not know about me:
1- My major strength on the Strength Finders test is Positivity. I guess I will finally have to admit that there is good and not so good to that!
2- I believe in Love, BUT, the Beatles lied, love is NOT all you need. (But it does rank right up there with oxygen)
3- I’m a rock and roll girl – the louder the better. Maybe I’ll still be a rock and roll star someday! Eagles, Beatles, CSNY, Stones & Queen come to Momma! I believe Classic Rock is part of any good education. 🙂 Still cannot believe I got to go to Desert Trip It was EPIC!
4- I’ve always believed CNN = Constant Negative News and that the human nervous system wasn’t designed to deal with the bad news of an entire planet. That’s what my brain firmly tells me – but lately it’s like a train wreck, I don’t really want to see it, but I just can’t look away!
5- I love Yoga and Pilates, swimming, kayaking and hiking in the woods. Fall is my favorite season to find fun new places to hike. I have YogaNursing® Essentials training and love being a holistic lifestyle educator. Are you a Nurse and love Yoga, and could use 10 CEU’s? Click here to learn more click here: YogaNurse
6- I am a Board Certified Holistic Nurse, and a Dr. Sears L.E.A.N. Wellness & Expectations Coach. I entered nursing school right out of High School. Definitely one of the best decisions I ever made. I loved every minute of school and went into pediatrics on the midnight shift after graduation because of my love and passion for kids. An unexpected divorce and the need to have a day job so Brett could go to day care while I worked led me to become a home health nurse. I quickly discovered that the things I loved the most about nursing were the relationships and patient teaching. I love teaching people how best to care for themselves or their family member. I know I’m living my mission when I empower others to take more responsibility for their own health and wellness, and share the tools to give them the best fighting chance they have to live a happy, healthy life for as long as possible! Oh joy! I’ve found ways to do that every day in my life from home! Living my passion and setting the world on fire with our Healthy Living Revolution!
7- I am so proud of my children. I have two sons Brett and Ben, the oldest and youngest. And a mermaid daughter Becca who is my partner in The Mothers Manual Blog. Brett & Becca choose Marisa and Gary. So now I have the most wonderful son-in-law and daughter-in-law on the planet! Hoping Marisa will gift The Mothers’ Manual with some of her hilarious and poignant musings! I have always tried to instill that family is most important and am grateful that they are all three very close as adults. They love and respect one another, though each is so different. Brett, Becca and Ben you are my motivation, my inspiration, and my heart!
Thank you for being my pride and joy!
8- I love to create in the kitchen, especially when friends and family join in! Creating something easy, delicious AND healthy is always the goal. Our kitchen island is the heart of the home.
9- I am a human doing. I admit it. I love to be in action. Yes, I can sit and watch a good show or movie, or sit for hours and talk with family or friends. But… I really like to accomplish things. As Brett would say “Get shit done!” Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew, and I do a lot of internal (and external) processing before I can finish something (sorry Becca!). But, overall, I like feeling helpful and productive. And, that is the goal of the Mothers’ Manual!
10- I’ve been ‘mothering’ for over 45 years, it is my joy and my proudest role. I’ve learned a lot along the way, and I am excited to share the things I wish I knew as a young woman and mom. Things that made my family healthier, my life easier, and gave me the confidence I needed to be the True North for my family.
Becca & Gary
Becca is a beautiful ballerina and yogi. She has danced since age 4 and she is still much better than she gives herself credit for. She absolutely could have danced with a prestigious professional company, and she still teaches and takes classes in her ‘copious spare time’! LOL. Dancing helps Keep her sane!
Becca is a good friend, and an amazingly loyal, caring sibling and daughter. She has always had a strong personality, a big heart, and a feisty spirit. What’s not to love!
She is a vegan and an amazing cook. You are in for a treat when she shares her recipes. They are healthy, easy and DELICIOUS!
Her full time job is in Social and Emotional Intellegence for a biotech company. This is a perfect fit for her, and she will be sharing ways to have more peace and less stress. Tools to bring awareness and a sense of being fully present. This can help change the way you view life and your experiences, especially the stressful or ‘negative’ ones!
She has been Becca McKnight since 2013. We had a beautiful, super meaningful outdoor wedding. Her little brother Ben was the musical talent, and her big brother Brett performed a touching ceremony worthy of our tears of joy! Perfect beginning to an amazing relationship. We love her choice in life partner, Gary totally fits in and puts up with our craziness!
AND… BIG NEWS… in 2019 Becca became a Mommy! I’m so proud of her!
…so, grab that cup of coffee or glass of Pino and let’s have some fun here!
